Restore Your Wooden Deck!
At CSC Exterior Cleaning we implement a six step process to ensure your getting the quality results your deck deserves!

Our six Step Deck Restoration includes the following:

#1.....Cleaning the wood is Critical See our page on Washing the Deck
Using just the right mixture of cleaners and wood stain removers. Warm water helps activate the ingredients and pull out the dirt grime sap and old stain. Thorough cleaning of any deck or fence is essential to get good results when sealing or staining. If the wood was previously sealed, the common practice is to strip off the old sealer to remove stain and other products on the surface. We do this to get back to the actual wood. All sealers are designed to bond best to the wood itself (rather than to bond to an aged layer of the old sealer). By stripping off at least the “coating” portion of the old sealer, we can eliminate most reasons for premature sealer failure.
#2....Brighten and neutralize the wood.

After a heavy duty washing, the wood is now in an Alkaline state. We want to bring the wood's PH back to an acceptable level before we apply any stain. A light acid wash will do the trick. Here you'll start to see the natural light color of the wood appear. By doing this, we'll be able to stain properly giving you the look you desire.
#3....Allow the wood to dry thoroughly!
Wood that is not dried well prior to stain does not allow the sealer to penetrate deep into the grain of the wood. This will result in premature sealer failure and can cause a blotchy look.
#4.... Sand and Prep the Wood!

We like to keep this in mind: like most refinishing jobs, excellent PREPARATION is the KEY to success. Prep right, and the deck will turn out GREAT. Rush through prep, skip a step (or two) to save money and/or time, and the deck won’t look nearly as good.
We will sand any spots still left from the cleaning process. Dark spots may exist, nail stains, marks from pots, bird droppings and so on. We will look over the surface carefully for these imperfections that ultimately do effect the finished result. Light use of heavy grit 60 or 80 sand paper will do the trick in removing the marking.
#5....Secure area from over spray!
To skimp out here would be a catastrophy! Sheeting off areas affected by the spray of the stain is crucial in ensuring a clean and neat job. Using Spray Shields, plastic, and tarps, we'll protect your plants, lower level patios, furniture, and painted or non-wood areas like it were our own home. "We promise a clean neat job every time!"
#6... Apply Stain using Brushes and Spray Guns.
Customers love to ask: How do you apply your stain? So, we decided to show you. Of course it depends on the situation, but almost always we'll use some sort of stain spraying device along with a hand applicator like a large chinese bristle brush. We use both because often we need to cut in close up with the brush, while at the same time covering large areas with the sprayer. We use two different types of sprayers depending on the situation and the saturation. For the large open first floor decks with nothing underneath, we might use multiple pump sprayers simultaniously and then switch to brush use finish up around the edges. If it's a smaller area to work in and or there is a deck area underneath, or there are a lot more obstructions to deal with we might opt to spray using a 120v airless sprayer, as the application is slightly more precise yet a tad bit slower. Additionally the age of the wood, and the amount of stain that will be needed will also determine what type of sprayer we use, as some sprayers emit larger droplets of stain for faster application and less misting.
